Latchingdon Firm Creates 'World's Biggest Kebab'

World's biggest kebab creates Latchingdon firm, A Business is celebrating creating the largest doner kebab in history, but it still won’t enter the record books.

The meaty monstrosity, which was produced by a team of 42 people from Kismet Kebabs, based at Milton House, in Maldon Road, Latching don, weighs in at over 2,000kg (314stone).
Standing at 6ft 3inches tall, it took over a week for staff to hand make the lamb kebab, which was created using quality cuts of meat and cost more than £4,000.

It has to be lifted by a forklift truck to and from the freezer. Sadly the record cannot be made official and enter the Guinness World Records because it allegedly has to be cooked to qualify and burners large enough to accommodate the giant kebab simply don’t exist.

The existing world record is held by the Maroosh Lebanese Café in Albury, New South Wales, Australia, which made a 413kg kebab in October 2004.

Instead, the makers are intending to donate the mighty meat to the Colchester Garrison early next month for soldiers to enjoy, though catering staff there were unable to confirm anyone from Kismet Kebabs had been in touch.Kismet Kebabs managing director Peter Michael, said: “It was my idea really, I guess.
“In our industry they all use machinery. We are the only hand made merchants left. We are a local company and wanted to show that we can make any size of kebab.”

He added: “This is a great thing. If we had the freezer space we could have gone even bigger.”
Kismet Kebabs produces more than 50 tons of hand-made kebabs per week and is Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC) certified.

Chiddy Bang Will Try to Break Guinness World Record for Longest Freestyle Rap

As many of you know, MTV's very first digital awards show, the OMAs, are April 28th. This is exciting for a ton of reasons (including the fact that the show will be held in Vegas, and I'll be there covering!) but the coolest part is Chiddy Bang's participation.

Chidera Anamege of the hip-hop group Chiddy Bang will attempt to score the Guinness World Records title for “Longest Freestyle Rap” as part of the awards kick-off. Best of all? He will be taking your topics and words from Twitter to use throughout his freestyle--all you have to do is tweet using the hashtag #RapWorldRecord! Send your words in, and watch as he flows (or at least attempts to) for nine hours straight. Insane, right?!

This got me thinking what other crazy awards Guinness has given out, so I headed over to their website and OMG. Take a look at some of the stuff people have actually won the award for:
    * Longest distance keeping a table lifted with the teeth
    * Fastest time to drink a 500 ml milkshake through a straw
    * Smallest Piece of Ice
    * Largest Condom
    * Fastest time to travel the entire New York City Subway

I wonder what I'd even qualify (or have a desire to compete) for...Most fashionable fat girl? Most tabs open ever in one browser window? Messiest desk? I'll keep thinking about that.
In the mean time, I can't wait for next week. I hope Chiddy makes it---I can't imagine freestyling for nine minutes, let alone nine hours. He has to rap while he pees!!! What if he gets hungry?! Mortal Kombat Now Holds 10 Guinness World Records – Excellent!

 Longest-serving videogame voice actor: The longest-serving videogame voice actor is Ed Boon (USA), the creator of Mortal Kombat (Netherrealm Studios, 1991), who has voiced the from the US Congress.

 Largest promotional campaign for a fighting video game: According to CNN, in 1995 Mortal Kombat staged the largest ever promotional campaign for a videogame and its related products. Leaving aside initial pre-release promotion, the Mortal Kombat movie opened on 2,000 screens in the USA on August 18 of that year, followed by a direct-to-video digital animation special on August 29 , a character Scorpion in every iteration of the game since its debut.

 Earliest game to trigger the set-up of a software ratings board: Established in 1994, the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) is an industry organization set up in response to the public reaction to Mortal Kombat. In an effort to avoid compulsory censorship, the ESRB set about applying ratings to games similar to those applied to movies. The move came as a consequence of pressure live-action Mortal Kombat tour launched from Radio City Music Hall in New York on September 14, an interactive CD-ROM on October 1 and finally the release of Mortal Kombat 3 the video game on October 15.

The ninth installment is due in 2011.  Earliest video game poster to be censored: On April 22, 2003, Britain’s Advertising Standard’s Authority (ASA) took the then unprecedented step of condemning the poster campaign promoting Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. They claimed that the poster -which showed a “hoodie” wiping his bloodstained hand on a businessman above the words “It’s in us all” – was “irresponsible” and “condoned violence”. The poster was unsurprisingly withdrawn.


 Earliest successful console fighting game: Although a very popular arcade game, when Mortal Kombat was released for the home market it took an incredible $1 billion-a-year in the first two full years of release. Needless to say, the game very quickly established itself as the number one choice among fighting gamers the world over.

 Earliest 3D fighting game to offer online play: Although online play is now a standard feature in all new fighting games, the first online playable 3D fighter was Mortal Kombat: Deception, released in 2004. The game offered one-on-one fighting between two players over the Internet, in addition to two, more sedate mini games – Puzzle Kombat and Chess Kombat.

 Highest grossing film based on a beat ‘em up video game: Mortal Kombat (USA, 1996) still holds the record for the highest grossing movie based on a beat ‘em up video game, having taken an impressive $122 million.



 Most successful video game spin-off soundtrack album: Released on August 15, 1995, the Mortal Kombat soundtrack album, which accompanied the $100 million movie, went platinum within ten days of release. The album included contributions from artists as diverse as Orbital, Napalm Death and Traci Lords.

Watson set a world record with 15 sixes v/s B'desh

If the Bangladeshi batsmen had scored 20 more runs, Shane Watson would have on Monday become only the second player after Sachin Tendulkar to score a double hundred in one-day internationals.
The Aussie opener hit a world record 15 sixes to take Australia to a nine-wicket win over Bangladesh in the second ODI in Mirpur. Chasing 230 to win, Watson's 185 not out of just 96 balls ensured that the visitors got to the total in 26 overs.

Watson's 185 is now also the highest score by an Australian in one-day internationals, going past former opener Mathew Hayden's score of 181 against New Zealand in 2007. And his 15 sixes are three better than the previous record of 12 sixes held by West Indies batsman Xavier Marshall when he scored 157 not out from 118 balls against Canada in 2008.

Watson, promoted as vice captain, took more than a leaf out of his captain Michael Clarke's book. Clarke had hit a century in the opening game. Watson went into demolition mode from the first over as he smacked 14 runs from it. He, in fact, raced to 27 runs before his partner Brad Haddin had even faced a delivery. The first wicket partnership yielded 62 runs with Haddin contributing eight.

At one down, Ricky Ponting was happy to be a spectator as Watson stamped his class and intent over the proceedings. Watson's best hits came in the 22nd over when he dispatched left-arm spinner Suhrawadi Shuvo for four sixes on the legside.

Watson took 26 balls to reach his 50, 43 balls to reach his next set of 50 runs, and only 14 to get his third set of 50. He took another 13 balls to score the remaining 35 runs and was involved in an unbroken 170-run stand with Ponting that came off just 17.3 overs.

Amongst all this mahyem, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan bowled seven overs for 35 runs, while Shuvo went for 15 per over from three overs and Shafiul Islam went for 27 runs from his two overs.

India wins ICC World Cup 2011

MS Dhoni became the 'Man of the match' while Yuvraj Singh's performance earned him the prize of 'Player of the tournament' as he remains consistent with the ball and bat and really dominated every game he played for India. 

INDIAN LIONS did it in style and the Lankan tigers had to accept defeat at the hands of none other than the cool Indian captain M S Dhoni, who made sure the team India gets on to lift the World Cup 2011 in Mumbai amidst loud cheers and applause from the strong crowd present in the Wankhede stadium to witness the history being written. No doubt MS Dhoni scripted the history when he hit the winning six in the 49th over and India became the new World Champion after 28 years.

This also moved India up in the ICC ODI rankings and India captured the number one spot and now, the team India is number one in both the formats of the game i.e. test and one day. The victory was long overdue as we missed it in 2003 when Australia defeated us. But Saturday was our day and we made it. This victory is very special to every Indian because of many reasons. First, we lifted the cup by beating Pakistan. Second, we won our match from team Australia also. This gives immense satisfaction that we are now the real champions.

It was a tough road for MS Dhoni and his men as there was tremendous pressure on them to perform and to excel in front of the home crowd and that too in a tournament which is called the “World Cup,” it was never easy. But it was the patience and quality of tackling pressure now that the youngsters in the team have been able to that’s give the team a smooth sailing even in the rough time.

After losing the toss in the finals, as there was some confusion perhaps due to the noise from the crowd that toss had to be done again and when Lanka won it and decided to bat first, many looked at ease thinking it was better to know the target and then chase it off as per the plan.

As India has a long batting line up and the form in which our players were, people thought anything between 260-280 odd runs would be not bad for the Indian side.

After the brilliant century by Mahela Jayawardhane, it was the turn of Virendra Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar. There were lots of hopes from Sachin as it was his home ground but after Viru got out on a duck, there was complete silence in the stadium and all looked shocked as he got out LBW in the very first over of Lasith Malinga on the second ball. Soon, Sachin also fell prey to Malinga when India was 31 and the score on the board displayed India 31/2.

Then it was the crucial partnership of more than 90 runs between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli which stabilized the Indian innings and when Kohli got out, it was captain M S Dhoni who came out to rescue his team and he made sure that he remained there on the crease till Indian side reached the victory line. He batted brilliantly along with Gautam Gambhir and put India in a commanding position. Gambhir missed his century by three runs.

It was Dhoni and Yuvraj who finished the innings for India and a long dream for millions of Indian cricket fans came true Saturday night when these two made sure that no more wicket fell for India and India became the World Champion in a close fighting game.

 It was a big-big win for Indian team. Right from the President and Prime Minister of India every body congratulated MSD and his team members for this historic win. BCCI has announced to give one crore each to the players, Rs 50 lakh to supporting staff and Rs 25 lakh to the selectors of the team.
